Registering a dental corporation

Any corporation set to provide dentistry services in PEI—general or specialized—must be issued a permit by the PEI Dental College. It is expected that the dentist applying for the permit is a registered member of the College.

Incorporation

The College Council advises registrants forming a corporation to obtain professional accounting and legal advice pertaining to their circumstances.

Business incorporation is covered by the Business Corporations Act and regulations.

Under authority of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) of PEI, section 15, approval of the PEIDC is required before a member may practice as a corporation.

Naming a dental corporation

Approved corporate names must include the surname(s), and may also include the first names or initials, of one or more licensed dentists who are shareholders in the corporation.

Certified dental specialists may also include their specialty in the name of the corporation in combination with the dentist's name—the Council will not accept the name of the specialty alone.
